Barber Shop Area Renter Application (DOS-1509-a)
Any licensed operator working at a barber shop and not employed by the owner of the business is an independent contractor and must obtain an area renter license.Overview
Permit allows individual to rent space as an independent contractor in a barber shop.
Requirements
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- The Barber Shop owner you will rent from must affirm that you will rent at their business location.
How to Apply

If a business license has been expired for 2 or more years, the license will not be available for claim. If an individual license has been expired for 5 or more years, the license will not be available for claim.

Looking to claim a license or application?
If you have a current license or active application, please follow these steps to access your information on the New York Business Express (NYBE) platform.
You will need the following:
- Your NY.gov account.
- For information on your NY.gov account, please visit Get a My NY.gov ID.
- Please note that your NY.gov account information should have your current information, including email address, password, and phone number. To update your information or change your password, log into your NY.gov account and select ""Update My Account"" on the header menu.
- A NYBE Individual Profile
- If you have one already, it should load when you log into the Claiming transaction. If you do not have an NYBE Individual Profile set up, the program will walk you through those steps first.
- The ID number of either the application or the license you are claiming.
You may only claim one record at a time; however, you may repeat the transaction to claim additional licenses or applications. There is no fee associated with claiming a record. The claiming transaction is for individual Barber or Appearance Enhancement Operators, Barber Apprentices, Nail Specialty Trainees, Barber Area Renters, and Appearance Enhancement Area Renters.

| Renewable: | Licenses are eligible for renewal 90 days before the expiration date on the license. A $10.00 late renewal penalty are applied if renewed more than 1 year late. A Barber Area Renter license can be renewed up to two years after the date of expiration. |
